In South Africa, this inconsolable baby rhino was found next to his slaughtered mother crying and alone after poachers murdered her for her horn. Rescuers from Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre went to work to sweep this little guy, Gertjie, to safety. He’s been afraid to sleep alone ever since.
For those that think animals aren't traumatized by such events let this be an obvious example. Thankfully, rescuers have been able to comfort and rehabilitate Gertjie and continue to make sure he isn't left alone while he sleeps. Hopefully, he’ll continue on the path to recovery with this caring rescue community. We're thinking of you Gertjie!
