The ‘Gaikao’ – China’s version of a college entrance exam, put huge pressure on the approximately 9.4 million students taking the test this year. Consequences of failing are severe and efforts by both students and enforcers are intense, to say the least. Police have released photos of some of the confiscated cheating devices recently. Check out these high-tech attempts to cheat.
According to University World News, this two-day exam is so exceedingly important because it essentially determines the future for not only the student – but for their entire family. There is no social security system established in China, which means for many families both parents and four grandparents might be depending on this one potential income at some point.
The score determines not only if college entrance is a possibility, but what rank within. The lower the rank, the lower the future pay – which can end up varying hugely dependent upon results. Although some of the photos below showing items used in attempts to cheat by desperate students seem pretty entertaining, it’s no laughing matter!
